Béret Publications, Inc. was established for the purpose of providing French teachers of all levels with high quality, easy to use teaching materials and to help teachers promote
the study of French.
Béret was incorporated in December, 2002 by French teachers, Arthur J. Bonds and Evelyn Davis Erven, who had recently retired from Wheaton North High School in Wheaton, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. Together they have over 70 years of teaching experience at both the high school and
middle school levels. Their first publication Avril à Paris was released in February, 2003.
A revised, second edition was published in 2005.
This book provides a simulated trip to Paris--everything from the passports to the farewell dinner--all taking place in the classroom. The 2-6 week unit can be used in any level of French. The unit requires little preparation by the teacher. It is ready to copy and go!
Their second publication French Enrollment Up! was released in April, 2004.
This book addresses an issue on every French teacher’s mind: how to increase student enrollment in French classes. The authors charted out a plan to increase enrollment in their own classes. After one year with this plan, they increased the number of French classes in their school by
38%. They maintained this increase for many years until they retired in 2001 and 2002. And, this was without trips, student exchanges, or even a French club. This book is the Nine Step Guide to their plan.
Their third publication, A Québec, au Québec, published in 2006, is similar to Avril à Paris but with all new activities. This book provides the teacher with over 125 pages of reproducibles--everything needed to conduct an in-class trip to Québec. It can be used with any level of French students.
